Connecting on Facebook

by Jay S NaPier

Social networking has become a big buzz in the business world today and no other website has what Facebook has to offer. You can easily promote your business by meeting people you relate to on a personal level. People buy from people they like, so after you get to know folks on Facebook it gets easier to make sales. Ok, you’re convinced – let me tell you more.

One of the most important things you’ll do with your Facebook account is make friends. It’s easiest to start with your existing friends. Look at your addressbook and see who already has a Facebook account and ask to become their friend on Facebook. Next, you can expand your search and look for people that you can meet. Start off with something in common – like your hobbies. This makes it easier to get to know people.

When you’ve built a good sized list, you can slowly begin to build your business. You’ll start off subtly. People get annoyed when your to agressive about promoting your business. You could get reported as a spammer or your friends might drop you. you don’t want to seem pushy. You also actually want to become people’s friends. Take an interest in what other are doing and what they like. Send your friends messages from time to time and really get to know them on a personal level. People buy from people they like, when someone likes you are more apt to purchase from you.

One thing that works great to promote a vacation business on Facebook is to put your vacation pictures up on the FunWall. For example, if you just took a great trip to Disney World, you can post your pictures on your profile. Then when your friends come to see your new pictures, they will probably comment about how fun that looks. Then, eventually the conversation will shift to how great of a deal you got on your trip. This is the perfect time to let them know about your business and how you can help them create such wonderful memories for their family.

Another way to make new friends is to join groups. A Facebook group is a group of people that have a common interest and are like-minded. You can find these groups covering so many different topics like: politics, sports, religion, geography, music, movies, and one of the biggies alma mater. Most recently for myself, I’ve really enjoyed reconnecting with people I went to school with over 18 years ago. It’s fun to reconnect and find out what your old classmates are up to.

Status, is another way to connect with people. Your status ask you “what are you doing?” you can connect with people by sharing bits and pieces of your life on a daily basis. You could be: hiking in the woods, reading a novel, or maybe you are at your daughter’s dance studio. No matter what you are doing, it’s another opportunity to connect with your friends. You can even announce how excited you are about a new product or service that your company has come out with.

Ever read a great article online? links are the place that you want to share those. Blog posts, your video channel, or perhaps the latest updates on American Idol. Your shared links can be news, pictures, videos, or perhaps even to announce you’ve added a new post to your business blog.

No matter what your objective is, Facebook is one of the best places online to connect with other people. You can get your word out to your current customers and even make new ones. Premier business into 2009 requires a Facebook account and regular updates to truly connect and successfully thrive with social networking.
